Our History
St. John Baptist de La Salle traces its origins to the late 1940s, when Catholics in the Delmont area were being served by St. Mary's in Export and visiting missionary priests. The parish was officially established in 1949, with its first Mass celebrated in a converted chicken coop. A new basement church was built in 1950, and within two decades, ground was broken on the current church building — which hosted its first Mass on April 6, 1969. In 2002, St. John's entered into a formal partnership with St. Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes in Export, and the two parishes have shared ministry and resources ever since.
- 1948 – Idea for a new Delmont parish is begun.
- 1949 – Parish of St. John de la Salle established; first Mass held in a converted chicken coop.

- 1960 – Property purchased for a new church building.
