Patroness: St. Elisabeth Chong Chong-hye (정정혜 엘리사벳)
The parish is named after St. Elisabeth Chong Chong-hye (1797–1839), a Korean virgin martyr and one of the 103 Korean Martyr Saints. She was baptized as an infant, lost her father Chong Yak-jong Augustine to the 1801 persecution when she was four years old, and was arrested in 1839 alongside her mother Yu So-sa Cecilia and her brother Chong Ha-sang Paul. Under interrogation she endured 230 blows of a cudgel over seven sessions but refused to recant. She was beheaded outside Seoul's Small West Gate on December 29, 1839, at age 43. Bishop Imbert once remarked of her, 'Sister Elisabeth is just like a woman catechist.' She was beatified in 1925 and canonized by Pope John Paul II in Seoul on May 6, 1984.
