St. James Catholic Church is a historic parish in San Francisco's Mission District, established in 1888 and rooted in the faith of Irish immigrants who helped build the neighborhood. Today it serves a diverse community with Sunday Mass in English and Spanish, and it partners with St. Paul's and St. Philip's as part of the Noe Valley Catholic Parishes cluster. History
St. James Parish was founded in 1888 to serve the growing Irish Catholic population of the western Mission District. The church at Guerrero and 23rd Streets became a neighborhood landmark, and the parish later established boys' and girls' schools that merged into today's St. James Catholic School.
School
St. James Catholic School, located on the same campus, provides K-8 education and continues the Dominican and Marianist educational legacy begun in the early 1900s.
