Pastoral Leadership
St. James is served by Fr. Collins Igwilo, who also serves as Pastor of St. Anthony of Padua in Hot Springs. Fr. Igwilo previously also served as Pastor of St. John the Baptist in Custer, an assignment from which he was released effective July 1, 2026. The parish shares in regional pastoral activities with the other parishes in the southern Hills cluster.
Parish Identity and Patron
The parish is named after St. James the Greater, one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ, brother of John the Apostle and traditionally recognized as the first apostle to be martyred. St. James the Greater is venerated as the patron saint of pilgrims and of Spain. His feast day is celebrated on July 25.
Pilgrimage and Regional Activities
In late September 2025, around sixty parishioners from St. John (Custer), St. Anthony (Hot Springs), and St. James (Edgemont) met in Rapid City for a Year of Hope Pilgrimage walk to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. The pilgrimage was organized and led by Fr. Collins Igwilo. At the Cathedral, Fr. Brian Christensen gave the group a tour, followed by Adoration, Reconciliation, and Mass.
