St. Isaac Jogues Parish is named for the 17th-century French Jesuit missionary Saint Isaac Jogues (1607–1646), who worked among the Huron and Mohawk peoples in New France and was martyred near Auriesville, New York. Jogues is venerated as one of the eight North American Martyrs, canonized by Pope Pius XI in 1930. His feast day is observed on October 19, together with the other North American Martyrs. As a parish founded under this patronage, the community of Georgetown draws spiritual inspiration from a saint whose missionary witness crossed cultures and continents.
