Why belong here
St. Hubert's offers a faithful, small-parish experience in the heart of the southern Adirondacks, with Sunday Mass each week, Wednesday daily Mass, and confessions before Sunday Mass. The parish shares its clergy and resources with neighboring St. James in Gouverneur and Sacred Heart in Edwards, so worshippers tap into a wider Catholic community of the Oswegatchie while keeping the intimacy of a rural Adirondack church. For Catholics and visitors in the Star Lake / Cranberry Lake region — hunters, snowmobilers, summer cottagers and year-round residents — St. Hubert's is the local spiritual home.

About St. Hubert's Parish
St. Hubert's Church is the Catholic parish of Star Lake, a small hamlet in the Town of Fine, St. Lawrence County, in New York's southern Adirondack region. It serves a year-round rural community as well as the seasonal residents and visitors who come to Star Lake and nearby Cranberry Lake for hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and summer recreation. The parish is led by the same pastor and deacons who serve St. James in Gouverneur and Sacred Heart in Edwards, with the three churches presented together as the Catholic Communities of the Oswegatchie on the shared parish website at oswegatchiecatholics.org.
History of St. Hubert's
St. Hubert's was founded in 1893 at Benson Mines, on land donated the previous year by the Magnetic Iron Ore Company, and was named for St. Hubert of Liège, the patron saint of hunters — a natural patron in Adirondack country. In 1942 the original wood-frame church and its rectory were physically moved one mile west along Route 3 into the village of Star Lake, where the parish continued to grow. In 1980 the parish relocated again to its present home at 1046 Oswegatchie Trail Road, near the shore of Star Lake. The earlier Route 3 church was later sold and, after years of being boarded up, was purchased in 2020 by a local family who are restoring the building and its stained-glass windows.

Patron Saint: St. Hubert of Liège
St. Hubert of Liège (c. 656–727) was a Frankish nobleman turned bishop, known as the "Apostle of the Ardennes" for his missionary work in the forests of what is now Belgium. He is the patron saint of hunters, archers, dogs, forest workers, trappers, mathematicians, opticians and metalworkers. His feast day is November 3. The hunting patronage is what made "St. Hubert" such a common church name in forested regions like the Adirondacks, where the local economy and culture were long tied to the woods.
