History of St. Hubert Parish
St. Hubert began as a Catholic mission on South Whidbey Island in 1938, established by Archbishop Gerald Shaughnessy. The original mission church was built at the corner of Third Street and Saratoga (DeBruyn) Avenue in 1935, and Reverend O'Brien from Oak Harbor celebrated the first Mass there in 1940. In those early decades, the island's scattered Catholics — many of them dairy farmers and ranchers — were visited by priests who traveled from Everett by boat. A Third Street entrance addition was completed in 1961. In 1966, Archbishop Thomas A. Connolly formally established St. Hubert as its own parish and named Father August Royer as the first pastor. Father Franklin Lott succeeded him and became the longest-serving pastor in parish history, serving twelve years and guiding the community through the implementation of Vatican II. Today St. Hubert remains a small but active parish, now grouped under Partners in the Gospel (2024) with the other two Whidbey Island parishes.

Faith Formation
The Faith Formation Commission assists the pastor in ensuring that the parish offers formation for all ages, either directly or in cooperation with neighboring parishes. Programs include formation for children and youth, preparation for First Communion and Confirmation, Family Catechesis, Youth Ministry, Young Adult Ministry (ages 18–39), YDisciple, retreats, and adult study groups and small groups.

Prayer Ministries
Prayer is central to life at St. Hubert, and the parish publishes a dedicated Prayer Ministries page that lists six regular gatherings: the Friday Rosary, the Charismatic Prayer Group, the Prayer Chain, the Prayer Group, the Seven Sisters Apostolate, and the monthly Taizé Prayer Service. Outreach & Service
Outreach is one of the defining marks of St. Hubert. St. Anthony's Soup Kitchen serves a free community lunch in the parish kitchen every Wednesday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm — open to everyone on Whidbey Island, not just parishioners. Its companion program, A Smile & A Meal, delivers pre-ordered meals on Thursday afternoons, with drivers from the Knights of Columbus and other volunteers. Other outreach efforts include monthly financial support for Love, Inc. and Families Moving Forward Southwest, PREPARES pregnancy and parenting support, and a Bereavement ministry that works alongside Pastoral Outreach and Mental Health Support.

The Knights of Columbus (St. Hubert Council) is one of the most active organizations, with Catholic men helping parishioners and neighbors through service projects such as property cleanups, heavy lifting, and home maintenance. The Women of St. Hubert (WOSH) supports parish life, and the Sunday Morning Hospitality (Coffee Hour / Donut Sundays) provides fellowship after Mass in Read Hall, with a rotating schedule of ministries hosting refreshments.
