Welcome & Identity

St. George Catholic Church is a bilingual Roman Catholic parish in the Diocese of Stockton, located at 120 W. 5th Street in southern Stockton. The parish's website (stgeorgeparish.net) emphasizes that every baptized Christian is a minister, and frames the parish as a community where members continue the mission and ministry of Christ through dozens of lay-led groups. History of St. George Parish

Catholics in the southern part of Stockton collaborated to build St. George, and the church was dedicated in February 1954, according to the Diocese of Stockton's deanery history. In January 1970, parishioners from the French Camp area dedicated the Mission of Good Shepherd, and in 1994 the parish sponsored another mission, Our Lady of Guadalupe in Lathrop, extending St. George's pastoral reach into the surrounding San Joaquin County communities. Today the parish is known as one of the most active bilingual communities in the diocese, and in 2025 it celebrated Jubilee 2025 with a pilgrimage to the Cathedral of the Annunciation.

Sacraments

The parish celebrates Baptism (in English on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays, in Spanish on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays), First Communion and Confirmation (registrations handled through the Religious Education office with Linda Reyes), and Marriage. Wedding arrangements must be made at least nine months in advance, and Penance is available Saturday afternoons or by appointment. The Communion to the Sick ministry brings the Eucharist to homebound parishioners.

Faith Formation & Religious Education

Faith formation is coordinated by Linda Reyes, the Director of Religious Education. The parish runs ongoing catechesis for First Communion and Confirmation preparation, with bilingual classes, and registers new students on a rolling basis. The parish website has a dedicated Confirmation page directing families to call and schedule an appointment with the DRE, and bulletins carry seasonal reminders for registration.

All Saints Academy (Parish School)

The parish school at 144 W. 5th St, directly across the street from the church, has been reorganized as All Saints Academy of Stockton (ASA) — a regional Catholic elementary school jointly sponsored by the five Deanery 2 parishes of St. Edward, St. Gertrude, St. Linus, St. Mary of the Assumption, and St. George. The transition was envisioned by Bishop Stephen Blaire in 2016 and realized under Bishop Myron Cotta; ASA opened for the 2021–2022 school year with Noehmi Jauregui as principal. The school mascot is the Knights and the colors are maroon and gold. ASA's mission statement emphasizes faith formation, academic excellence, and serving the ethnically and linguistically diverse Stockton community.

St. George publishes a remarkable list of more than 40 ministries, in keeping with its teaching that every baptized Christian is called to serve. The ministries are organized in both English and Spanish and span liturgical service (altar servers, lectors, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, sacristans, decoration, counting, tribunal aide, ceremonies coordinators), catechesis and sacramental prep (catechists, baptism preparation, pre-marriage prep), outreach (St. Martha's Meal, communion to the sick, migrant ministry / Campo Migrante, hospital visits), prayer groups (Divine Mercy Cenacle, Adoración Nocturna, Rosary Group, Viacrucis, Pescador de Hombres, Vocations Ministry, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Our Lady of Fatima, San Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila Prayer Group, Legion of Mary curiae, Fil-Am of St. George, Health & Wellness, Christ for Life), and parish operations (Finance Council, Pastoral Council, Greeting/Welcome, Sanitation, Knights of Columbus — St. George Council, Brides' Maid). Music & Choirs

Music is central to parish life at St. George, which lists at least eight active choirs spanning English, Spanish, and Filipino-American liturgical traditions. The choirs support the various Sunday Masses, the Spanish evening Saturday Mass, the Guadalupano devotion, and special events throughout the liturgical year.

Sponsored Missions & Outreach

St. George has a long history of sponsoring satellite missions to serve Catholics in surrounding communities. In January 1970, parishioners in the French Camp area dedicated the Mission of Good Shepherd (305 French Camp Rd, French Camp) as a mission of St. George, and in 1994 the parish sponsored another mission, Our Lady of Guadalupe in Lathrop. These missions are listed in the Diocese of Stockton's parish finder alongside St. George itself.
