Why belong here

St. George offers a small, faithful rural community of Czech-heritage Catholics who gather for Mass twice a month at 4:00 p.m. on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays. As part of the Catholic Parishes of Republic County, members benefit from shared sacramental preparation (First Communion, Confirmation, OCIA), family faith formation, and the fellowship of sister parishes St. Edward (Belleville) and St. Isidore (Cuba). It's a place to put down deep roots in a multi-generational farming community.

Parish History

St. George Parish traces its origins to the New Tabor Czech colony founded in 1870, which Father Louis Mollier began visiting every two months in 1874. The first church was dedicated in June 1887 on donated land. In 1910 a larger church was built, and in 1950 the entire 70-ton structure was moved five miles into Munden over a circuitous route that avoided narrow bridges. A 1962 addition provided classroom space. The parish has long shared clergy with neighboring Czech and Polish settlements, and today worships as part of the Catholic Parishes of Republic County.
