Parish History
St. George has served Fort Worth's east side as a Catholic parish for many decades under the Diocese of Fort Worth, working closely with local families and supporting a parish school. The parish's current pastor, Father Linh Nguyen, was baptized at St. George and grew up three blocks away at Christ the King Church; he was ordained May 22, 2021 at St. Patrick Cathedral as part of the largest ordination class in the diocese's history. Earlier priests of note include Father Robert (Bob) Strittmatter, who served St. George beginning in 1975; Father Thu Nguyen, who served until being transferred to St. Jude Parish in Mansfield in September 2016; and Father Ronaldo Mercado, who was appointed Parochial Administrator of St. George that same month. Sacraments
The parish prepares the faithful for the full sacramental life of the Church. Baptism is offered for children under age 7, with baptism prep classes in English (scheduled as needed) and Spanish (3rd Friday of the month); older children and adults enter through OCIA (the restored Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). Confirmation is prepared through faith formation classes, retreats, instruction on the Holy Spirit, service, and regular Sunday Mass participation; candidates must already be baptized and have received First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion are part of the parish faith formation program.
