Parish History

St. Gabriel the Archangel was established in 1996 by the Diocese of Dallas as a new parish serving the fast-growing McKinney area. Msgr. Gregory Kelly was named founding pastor and led the community for twelve years, seeing it through its earliest growth years in a temporary worship space. After Msgr. Kelly was named Vicar for Clergy in 2008, the parish continued to expand until breaking ground on its permanent sanctuary in 2016; the new church was completed in 2018 and dedicated in 2019.

Architecture & Sacred Space

The permanent sanctuary, designed by BCDM Architects, takes the form of a Greek cross in a Romanesque-inspired style with arches, large windows, and a central plaza. A statue of St. Gabriel stands at the heart of the campus beside a pool representing the moment heaven broke into the world, with the Archangels Raphael and Michael flanking the entry as protectors of the church. Smaller gardens throughout the grounds recall the biblical passages in which the Archangel Gabriel appears and offer spaces for prayer and fellowship.
