Parish History
St. Gabriel was canonically established on April 9, 1958 as a new parish of the (then) Diocese of San Antonio, now the Archdiocese. By 1961 the parish was already large enough that its territory was used, along with parts of Our Lady of Grace in La Coste and St. Louis in Castroville, to carve out the new parish of St. Vincent de Paul. Today the parish continues to operate from its original SW 39th Street campus and is identified by the Archdiocese as a Confirmation site for 2026.
