About St. Francis of Assisi

St. Francis of Assisi is a Roman Catholic parish of the Diocese of Las Vegas serving southern Henderson, Nevada. Located on a 22-acre campus in the MacDonald Ranch area, the parish is one of the largest in the diocese with about 8,500 registered families. It is currently celebrating a 'Year of St. Francis' jubilee and is in the midst of major campus expansion with the construction of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic School.

Parish History

The parish was founded in 2003 under founding pastor Father Gregory Gordon to serve the booming southern Henderson neighborhoods of Anthem, Green Valley Ranch, MacDonald Highlands, MacDonald Ranch, Seven Hills, Silverado Ranch, and South Fork. Father Gordon — now Auxiliary Bishop Gregory Gordon of Las Vegas — also launched the parish's annual festival in the parish's early years. The parish grew rapidly alongside Henderson's population, eventually becoming one of the largest congregations in the diocese. Most recently, the parish broke ground in 2023 on St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic School, the first new diocesan elementary/middle school campus in 19 years, to be built directly on the church campus.

  • Founded: 2003
  • Founding pastor: Fr. Gregory Gordon (now Auxiliary Bishop Gordon)

Sacraments

The parish celebrates all the usual Catholic sacraments and provides preparation for each. Parents seeking baptism should contact the Faith Formation Office after completing the baptism packet of paperwork. Confessions are heard weekly on Saturday mornings and by appointment, and the Anointing of the Sick and marriage are arranged through the parish office. First Friday Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, concluding with Benediction at noon, is a monthly devotion of the parish.

  • Baptism: contact Faith Formation Office at 702-914-2175 after baptism packet is complete

St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School

In response to the area's growth and the parish's lack of an on-site Catholic school, diocesan and parish leaders broke ground in June 2023 on St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic School, the first new Catholic elementary/middle school campus in the Diocese of Las Vegas in 19 years. The school is being built directly on St. Francis of Assisi's 22-acre campus and will initially serve about 260 students in preschool through eighth grade. Parishioners made long-term financial commitments to fund the building, which will also be used for parish events. The mascot chosen by the parish community is the Saints, with school colors of navy green and gold.

  • Opening year: first school year scheduled to begin Aug. 17 (per Las Vegas Review-Journal)
  • Initial enrollment: ~260 students, preschool through 8th grade
  • Mascot: Saints
  • School colors: navy green and gold
  • First new diocesan elementary/middle school in 19 years

Annual Parish Festival

The parish hosts an annual community festival that was started by founding pastor Fr. Gregory Gordon (now Bishop Gordon). Held the weekend of October 8, 2022 for its 18th year, the festival featured ethnic food booths, a children's area with bounce houses, a craft sale, a raffle, and a live band. All funds raised support the parish's master plan building fund. Bishop George Leo Thomas and Auxiliary Bishop Gregory Gordon attended the 2022 festival to greet parishioners and assist with the raffle drawing.

  • Started by founding pastor Fr. Greg (now Bishop) Gordon
  • 2022 marked the festival's 18th year
  • Proceeds support the parish master plan / building fund
