History of St. Francis of Assisi, Harrington
The parish dates to 1906, when pioneer Catholics in the Harrington area built the first St. Francis Catholic church and established the adjoining St. Francis Cemetery. A central figure in this founding was Marion F. Adams, a Kentucky-born homesteader who settled near Harrington in 1885, became a merchant and banker in town, and helped finance the church and donate the cemetery land to the Catholic community. The parish was formally incorporated in the State of Washington in 2007 and remains an active nonprofit religious corporation. Today St. Francis is pastored as part of a multi-parish cluster serving rural Lincoln, Stevens and Spokane Reservation communities.
