About St. Francis of Assisi Church - Christ the King Parish · Harmarville, Pennsylvania
St. Francis of Assisi Church is one of seven worship sites of Christ the King Parish in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, located at 2599 Freeport Road in Harmarville (Harmar), Pennsylvania. The parish traces its roots to 1934, when St. Francis of Assisi Parish was established to serve the small community along the Allegheny River. In 2011 it was merged with St. Timothy in Indianola and St. Edward in Blawnox to form St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish, and in 2021 it was incorporated into the newly created Christ the King Parish. Today the St. Francis church building hosts daily noon Mass on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and is also the home base of the Addiction Recovery Ministry Pittsburgh founded by the late Fr. Michael Decewicz.

Christ the King Parish is one of the largest and most diverse multi-church parishes in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, uniting seven worship sites across O'Hara, Blawnox, Sharpsburg, Aspinwall, and Harmar — including a Korean Catholic community served from St. John Cantius Church. The St. Francis of Assisi site in Harmar offers the intimacy of a small neighborhood church with weekday noon Mass three days a week, a monthly Holy Hour and Benediction, a Calix recovery meeting, and a year-round Addiction Recovery Ministry that draws close to a thousand people annually from across the region. Visitors and parishioners can plug into youth ministry, St. Vincent de Paul, Respect Life, Creation Care, the Hope for Haiti Committee, Music Ministry, and the parish Social Committee — a community grounded in the Eucharist and shaped by service to those on the margins.

About St. Francis of Assisi Church
St. Francis of Assisi Church is one of seven worship sites belonging to Christ the King Parish in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. It sits at 2599 Freeport Road in Harmarville (the Harmar community), a half-mile south of the Allegheny Valley exit of the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76). The parish traces its origins to 1934, when St. Francis of Assisi Parish was established to serve the Catholic families of this small Allegheny River community. Today it continues as a weekday-Mass site and as the home base of the Addiction Recovery Ministry Pittsburgh.

Addiction Recovery Ministry (ARM Pittsburgh)
The Addiction Recovery Ministry Pittsburgh (ARM) was founded in 2018 by the late Rev. Michael W. Decewicz, a priest of the Diocese of Pittsburgh and a recovering alcoholic. Fr. Michael piloted the program out of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Harmar and grew it into a regional ministry offering weekly meetings (including Al-Anon and Narcotics Anonymous), virtual programs, expert speakers in recovery, Facebook Live reflections, and fundraisers. The ministry now serves close to 1,000 people a year and is carried on today under director Rosemarie Haas and spiritual advisor Brother Joseph Dudek.

Korean Catholic Community
Christ the King Parish is home to a Korean Catholic Community served by chaplain Rev. Jinjo Kim. A Korean-language Mass is celebrated each Thursday at 11:30 AM at St. John Cantius Church in Sharpsburg, and a Korean Mass is also offered Sunday at 11:00 AM at the same site.
