History

Catholicism in the area began as a mission in Idabel, with the first Mass held in 1949 in a home. The parish’s modern brick church was completed in late 1949 and dedicated in January 1950. The Glenmary priests took over in 1957, and the parish expanded with a rectory built in 1963. The first native-born priest from the parish, Fr. Joseph Propps, was ordained in 1967. The parish has maintained strong community ties, educational programs, and a legacy of generosity and faithfulness despite historical challenges.
