St. Rose Church, located in St. Rose, Illinois, is a Catholic parish with deep historical roots dating back to 1867, founded by local Catholic families seeking their own spiritual center. History
The first Catholic settlers arrived between 1844 and 1850, attending church in Highland, Illinois. By 1867, 25 families in the St. Rose area formed a committee to establish their own parish. Bishop Henry Damian Juncker granted the request, and land was purchased for $250. The church was designed by an architect from St. Louis and built by a carpenter from Breese, IL. The cornerstone was laid on August 30, 1868, and the church was under roof by spring 1870. The first resident pastor, Father Theodore Kamann, arrived in 1869 after agreeing to build a rectory. A school was dedicated in 1881 by the Precious Blood Sisters. In 1988, the church was renovated to reflect Vatican II liturgical guidelines.
Sacraments
The parish offers all seven sacraments, including Baptism, Confirmation, First Communion, Holy Matrimony, Anointing of the Sick, and Reconciliation. Baptisms are held during and after Mass on weekends, and parents must view a Baptismal Instructional video for the first child. Confirmation is for 8th graders, First Communion for 2nd graders, and marriage preparation includes the Pre-Cana Program. Reconciliation is available before Saturday evening Mass or by appointment.
