About St. Eulalia · Coudersport, Pennsylvania

St. Eulalia Parish is a Roman Catholic parish in Coudersport, the seat of Potter County in north-central Pennsylvania. Founded in the early 1880s to serve Irish Catholic settlers of the 1840s and now pastoring the entire county (with the exception of two northwestern townships) under the Diocese of Erie, the parish is headquartered at a brownstone church on East Maple Street and shares a pastor with St. Gabriel the Archangel in Port Allegany. Today St. Eulalia serves four worship sites — the parish church itself, Sacred Heart Mission in Genesee, and the formerly independent parishes of St. Augustine in Austin and St. Bibiana in Galeton — and welcomes Catholics and visitors to its Sunday Eucharists, faith-formation programs, and devotional life.

Parish History

Catholic life in Coudersport traces to Irish immigrants of the 1840s who, for nearly forty years, were visited roughly every three months by a priest from Saint Mary Parish in Sartwell. The parish was established in 1883, the first wooden church built in 1885 on Keating-donated land and named for the family's deceased daughter Eulalia. A larger brownstone church replaced it around 1902, and the parish gradually absorbed responsibility for the surrounding missions: Saint Augustine in Austin, Saint Bibiana in Galeton, and Saint Germain in Germania, often served by visiting Benedictine priests from Elk County. After a 2009 partnership with Saint Gabriel the Archangel in Port Allegany began sharing a pastor, the Diocese of Erie in 2017 formally merged Saint Bibiana Parish into Saint Eulalia, making the parish the territorial Catholic parish for virtually all of Potter County.

  • 1883 — Parish established in Coudersport
  • 1885 — First wooden church built on Keating-donated land and named 'St. Eulalia'
  • c. 1902 — Current brownstone church erected on East Maple Street
  • 2009 — Begins sharing a pastor with Saint Gabriel the Archangel, Port Allegany
  • 2017 — St. Bibiana Parish, Galeton merged into St. Eulalia by decree of Bishop Persico
