About St. Elizabeth Catholic Church
St. Elizabeth is the Catholic parish for Gooding, Idaho, a small community in the Magic Valley region of south-central Idaho. It is one of the parishes of the Diocese of Boise and operates from a church building on California Street in Gooding. Like many parishes in rural Idaho, it is a close-knit community that brings together farming families, longtime residents, and newer arrivals — including a Spanish-speaking congregation served by a bilingual Sunday Mass.
Parish History
Catholic life in the Gooding area grew up alongside the irrigated settlements of the early twentieth century. Settlers first arrived in the Gooding precinct in 1917 to farm the newly available land, and the Catholic community gathered under the patronage of St. Elizabeth. Sacramental registers for the parish survive in the diocesan archives in Boise from 1949 onward, with microfilm copies held by the FamilySearch Library in Salt Lake City. As part of the Diocese of Boise — the diocese erected by Pope Leo XIII in 1893 to serve all of Idaho — St. Elizabeth's has continued as a small but steady presence in the Magic Valley.
Priest and Leadership
The parish is currently served by Father Carlos Rosero Patino, a priest of the Diocese of Boise originally from Colombia. Father Rosero was born March 26, 1964 in Colombia and completed his studies at the Pontifical University Bolivariana in Medellín and Cali. He was ordained to the priesthood on January 24, 2009, in the Archdiocese of Cali by Bishop Juan Francisco Sarasti Jaramillo. After serving parishes in Colombia from 2009 to 2015, he came to Idaho in October 2015 as Parochial Vicar at St. Paul's Parish in Nampa, later serving at St. John Paul II Parish in Idaho Falls and other diocesan assignments before his appointment to Gooding.
Diocese of Boise
St. Elizabeth's is one of the parishes of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Boise, which serves the entire state of Idaho.
