St. Elizabeth Ann Seton is a Catholic church in Edgewood, New Mexico, and the newest of the four churches that make up Estancia Valley Catholic Parish (EVCP), which also includes Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Moriarty (the main parish church), Sts. Peter and Paul in Estancia, and San Antonio in Tajique. The Edgewood church was built by local parishioners beginning in the late 1980s and completed in the early 1990s, and it sits on Highway 344 a short distance north of I-40 Exit 187. It belongs to the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Santa Fe and operates under the guidance of the pastor assigned to EVCP, sharing Mass, formation, and ministry life with the other three mission churches across the Estancia Valley.

The parish welcomes families into a complete sacramental life — weekly Sunday Mass, weekday Masses on Tuesday and Thursday, Eucharistic Adoration on Tuesday evenings, and Sunday-evening Reconciliation — alongside Faith Formation for grades K-12, OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) for adults preparing for Baptism, Confirmation, and First Communion, and a growing list of lay ministries including lectors, altar servers, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, sacristans, music, hospitality, art and environment, cleaning crews, grounds keepers, and a newly forming Matachines ministry. With the Knights of Columbus and a Mayordomo lay-leadership system covering each of the four churches, there is a real place for every age and talent to belong.

About St. Elizabeth Ann Seton & Estancia Valley Catholic Parish

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Edgewood, NM is the newest of the four churches that together form Estancia Valley Catholic Parish (EVCP). The parish describes itself as 'four distinct churches as one unique and dynamic Parish.' Its sister churches are Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Moriarty (the third oldest and where the parish office and rectory now stand), Sts. Peter and Paul in Estancia (the second oldest, once home to the first rectory), and San Antonio in Tajique (the oldest, with roots in the early 1600s and the original seat of the San Miguel Mission). The Edgewood church was built by local parishioners starting in the late 1980s and finished in the early 1990s — a true community-built sanctuary serving the eastern Estancia Valley.

Parish Staff & Clergy

The parish is served by a pastor, a parochial vicar, and a deacon, with an office manager and business manager supporting parish operations. Fr. Angelo Marquez, the parochial vicar, was raised in Rio Rancho and studied philosophy before answering a call to the priesthood; he was ordained in 2016 and has previously served in Clovis and Arroyo Seco. He also serves the wider archdiocese as Director of Ongoing Formation of Priests.

Faith Formation & Religious Education (K-12)

Religious Education at Estancia Valley Catholic Parish is described as 'a process of evangelization focused on helping individuals grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and live as disciples.' The parish aims to address the whole person — mind, heart, and actions — and offers classes for all ages, not only children. Preparation is provided for the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, and Confirmation.

OCIA — Order of Christian Initiation of Adults

OCIA (formerly known as RCIA) is the parish's ongoing process of formation for adults seeking the Sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Communion, Penance, and/or Confirmation. Adults interested in becoming Catholic, or baptized Catholics seeking to complete their initiation, are invited to register through the parish.

Sacraments

The parish celebrates all the standard Catholic sacraments. Baptism is offered from infancy through age 7 with required parent classes; older children and adults prepare through OCIA. Confirmation is celebrated with youth age 15 or starting 9th grade. Reconciliation is heard on Sunday afternoons at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and Saturday afternoons at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Couples seeking marriage and families requesting Anointing of the Sick are invited to contact the parish office.

Parish Ministries & Lay Leadership

EVCP recently introduced a 'Mayordomo System' of lay leadership, placing one mayordomo — or a married couple — at each of the four churches to coordinate ministries, with leads inside each ministry. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton's mayordomo is Louie Castañeda. The parish describes Hospitality as one of its newest ministries, and a Matachines devotion is being established. Every volunteer in ministry is required to obtain a Virtus Training Certificate (with a background check), which is good for five years and renewable.
