St. Elizabeth Ann Seton

Parish History & Patroness

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish was founded on July 1, 1985 — the tenth anniversary of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton's canonization by Pope Paul VI in 1975. She was the first American-born person declared a saint. About 300 Catholics in Coral Springs first gathered for a liturgy in her honor at Ramblewood Middle School, and the Catholic Community of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton was born. By 1989 the parish had grown to more than 2,200 families and 1,400 religious education students; on October 14, 2001, the 1,200-seat church and chapel were dedicated, completing the parish's second construction phase. The patroness, Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton (1774–1821), is honored inside the church with a wooden statue near the entrance, a rose window, and a breezeway mural depicting her guiding the children for whom she founded Catholic schools.

Worship & Sacraments

The parish offers Mass seven days a week in English, plus a weekly Spanish Mass on Saturday evening and Wednesday evening. Confessions are heard twice weekly in the Chapel, and Eucharistic Adoration is offered almost every day of the week. Sacramental preparation for First Eucharist and Confirmation requires two years of continuous enrollment in Religious Education and includes student and family retreats.

Faith Formation & Religious Education

Directed by Gladys Jacobs, the parish Religious Education program ministers to children in Kindergarten through High School and to the whole family. The faith-based curriculum centers on the Sunday liturgy, Catholic doctrine, and family life. Continuous yearly enrollment is recommended so that youth are thoroughly prepared for the sacraments; sacramental preparation for First Eucharist and Confirmation requires two years of continuous enrollment and includes student and family retreats. The office is open Monday through Thursday with extended hours on class-session evenings.

Youth Ministry

The parish's High School Youth Group, coordinated by Jenn D'Angelo-Lucovic, gathers teens in a dedicated youth room for faith-sharing, discussion, and activities under the theme 'Where to Find God and Faith in a Teen's Everyday Life.' With students from more than ten area high schools, the group fosters lifelong friendships rooted in Catholic faith. Separate middle-school youth groups meet for prayer, community service, and fellowship.

Outreach & Service

Outreach to the poor and vulnerable is a hallmark of parish life. The St. Vincent de Paul Society and Feeding the Poor Outreach lead the parish's charitable work, supported by blood drives, the Respect Life ministry, and a bereavement outreach effort that walks alongside grieving families. In non-pandemic years the community has hosted an annual golf tournament and craft show to fund these efforts.

Seton Ridge Children's Center

Founded in the late 1980s in response to rapid parish growth, Seton Ridge Children's Center is the parish pre-school, providing faith-based early childhood education on the parish campus for the children of parish families and the surrounding Coral Springs community.

Architecture & Sacred Art

The 1,200-seat church dedicated in 2001 is a rich catechism in glass and art. Symbol-laden stained-glass windows illustrate the seven sacraments (baptism, confirmation, reconciliation, the Eucharist, holy orders, matrimony, and anointing of the sick), with a dove for the Holy Spirit, a chalice for the Eucharist, and the Chi-Rho monogram from the first two Greek letters of Christos. Twelve additional windows depict scenes from the life of Christ — familiar images like the Crucifixion and Ascension alongside less-common ones such as the calling of Zacchaeus and the raising of Lazarus — arranged around a rose window of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Other notable works include a striking blue-glass crucifix, a mural of Jesus amid palm fronds, a breezeway mural of Mother Seton guiding children, and a wooden statue of the patroness near the entrance.

Clergy & Parish Leadership

The parish is currently led by Father Andrew J. Tomonto, who was appointed Parochial Administrator effective July 1, 2024, by the Archdiocese of Miami. He is assisted by two parochial vicars, Fr. Mathew Varghese and Fr. Jesse Adam 'Paul' Pierce. The parish belongs to the Northwest Broward Deanery of the Archdiocese of Miami.
