St. Charles Parish describes itself as a wonderful welcoming Family of Faith located in New Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Together with St. Nicholas in Crates, the parish forms one community with two worship sites. As the People of God, members 'rejoice in doing our very best to live and love like Christ,' and they are committed to loving God, loving others, and making disciples. History

St. Charles Roman Catholic Church was organized in 1872, becoming the third church congregation founded in New Bethlehem. The parish continues to worship at 201 Washington Street, the same block identified by local historians as the original location. Today it operates as a parish-with-secondary-mission alongside St. Nicholas in Crates.

Mass & Liturgical Schedule

St. Charles celebrates Sunday Mass at 10:00 a.m. and offers daily Mass on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 9:00 a.m., with a Saturday evening Mass at 5:30 p.m. and a First Saturday morning Mass at 8:30 a.m. Holy Day Masses (Vigil and Holy Day) are typically scheduled at 7:00 p.m., with the weekly bulletin as the final reference for any changes.

Religious Education & Faith Formation

The parish's Religious Education Program exists for the ongoing development of the whole person into the image and likeness of Jesus Christ. Faith formation is presented as a lifelong journey that begins in the waters of Baptism and ends with eternal life with Jesus in heaven. The program aims to give students a solid, age-appropriate foundation in the faith, and public-school students are encouraged to begin classes in the first grade.

Parish Staff & Leadership

St. Charles is led by Pastor Rev. Samuel Bungo (currently on a medical leave of absence effective February 3, 2026), with Rev. Jason R. Eusebio Feigh serving as Parochial Administrator pro tempore while continuing as Pastor of Immaculate Conception. The lay staff includes an Office Manager, Faith Formation Facilitator, music coordinators and organists for both worship sites, and a maintenance lead.

Music ministry at St. Charles is coordinated by Lisa Goth with Scott Reinsel serving as organist/pianist at St. Charles. The sister mission church, St. Nicholas in Crates, is supported by Music Coordinator Brianna Kiehl and organist Kathleen Mohney. Together they support the sung liturgy at both worship sites of the parish.
