St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Boardman, Ohio, is a Roman Catholic parish established in 1926 in the Diocese of Youngstown. On January 1, 2025 it merged with neighboring St. Luke Parish to form the new St. Catherine of Siena Parish, with the historic St. Charles Borromeo Church at 7345 Westview Drive continuing as a regular worship site featuring Saturday Vigil and two Sunday Masses. The parish traces its origins to Bishop Joseph Schrembs's 1926 land purchase at the corner of Market Street and what is now State Route 224, where generations of families have built the church — quite literally, with parishioners volunteering to construct the first church-school in one month in 1927.

St. Charles Borromeo is a long-standing Boardman parish whose identity was literally built by its members — the 1927 church-school went up in one month because 150 volunteers came after their shifts in the mills. Almost a century later that stewardship continues through dozens of active ministries: an active Community Meal and Graceful Hands outreach, a Rosary Makers group, Rosary recitation before every Saturday Mass, Eucharistic Adoration on Wednesday mornings, St. Anthony of Padua novena devotions, a live-streamed Sunday Mass, a thriving parish school (Pre-K through grade 8), and a comprehensive Religious Education program for parish children.

History & Identity
St. Charles Borromeo Parish was founded November 4, 1926, on the northeast corner of Market Street and what is now State Route 224 in Boardman, Ohio, when Cleveland-Diocese Bishop Joseph Schrembs purchased 1.25 acres and appointed Father Patrick J. Ferron as first pastor. In 1943 the parish became part of the newly erected Diocese of Youngstown (Bishop James A. McFadden, first bishop). After 65 years worshiping in temporary quarters, the present church was dedicated November 24, 1991. On January 1, 2025, St. Charles Borromeo merged with St. Luke Parish to form St. Catherine of Siena Parish, of which St. Charles Borromeo Church remains one of two worship sites.

Prayer & Special Devotions
Beyond the regular liturgy, St. Charles Borromeo offers a small but consistent devotional life — Rosary recitation before Saturday Mass, a St. Anthony of Padua Novena, Eucharistic Exposition on Wednesday mornings, and an annual Mass of Remembrance. These devotions were a hallmark of Fr. Philip Rogers's pastorate.

Following the 2025 merger, the parish of St. Catherine of Siena — which includes St. Charles Borromeo Church as a worship site — is led by Rev. Stephen Zeigler as pastor, with Monsignor John Zuraw serving as Temporary Parish Administrator. Rev. The Adult Faith Formation program includes a Home & School Association (St. Charles), Catholic Men's Fellowship, a Parish Library, Sponsor Couples, and OCIA (the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) with its OCIA Team — a full RCIA pathway for unbaptized adults and those seeking full communion with the Catholic Church.

St. Charles School
St. Charles School has been a central ministry of the parish since 1927. Current principal Teresa Yarger oversees the elementary campus with Alice Felden as School Attendance and Diane Schlatter as Administrative Assistant. A new playground was blessed by Msgr. Zuraw on November 16, 2023 (with the whole student body present) and is scheduled for an official dedication honoring a former student who passed from neuroblastoma.

Outreach & Charitable Works
Outreach has been a mark of St. Charles Borromeo since its founding. Newer ministries under Fr. Philip Rogers — Community Meal, Graceful Hands, Rosary Makers — are now joined by a wide network of parish outreach partnerships, including St. Vincent de Paul, Catholic Charities, Martha's Cupboard food pantry, the Knights of Columbus (Msgr. Youth & Young Adult Ministry
Natalie Wardle serves as Director of Youth Ministry & Young Adult Ministry and as Compliance Officer for St. Charles, working with the parish's school-age and young-adult Catholics. The youth group is part of the parish's continued investment in forming the next generation of parishioners.

Music Ministry
Two directors of music serve the merged parish: Laura Kunkel directs music at St. Charles, and Joseph ('Joe') McKim directs music at St. Luke. Together they coordinate music for the liturgies at both worship sites, the live-streamed Sunday Mass, and parish celebrations.

Facilities & Operations
After the 2025 merger the parish operates from a unified office and oversees two campuses. A new Ministries Building was constructed in recent years, and in summer 2023 a pavilion was built on the site of the old rectory (attached to the former rectory garage), along with a basketball court, swing set, and gaga pit. Rich Antonucci maintains St. Charles and Rick Clautti maintains St. Luke; Dave Felden is Facilities Manager for St. Charles; Rich Rizzi is St. Luke Bookkeeper; Denise Statler handles St. Charles bookkeeping and tuition; Dan Landers is Director of Finance & Operations across the merged parish.

Parish sacramental preparation is coordinated through the parish office and the Religious Education office (330-758-8063). First Reconciliation/First Communion flow through the parish school and the CCD program; adult initiation through OCIA; marriage preparation with Sponsor Couples; and Bereavement Meals for funerals.
