Parish History
The Catholic story of the Beaverton area goes back to 1876, when Archbishop Blanchet sent Father Hermann to serve scattered Catholics in Washington County. The community gathered around St. Anthony's in Cedar Mill (1884), whose Dominican, then Sisters of Mercy-run school was twice destroyed by fire. In 1903 Archbishop Alexander Christie purchased Beaverton land; the first Beaverton church (dedicated to St. Mary) opened in 1908. In 1912 Father James Patrick O'Flynn took over as pastor and launched a fundraising drive that produced the two-story St. Cecilia chapel-school, dedicated June 18, 1913. Successive pastors — Father O'Neill (1919–1935), Father O'Keefe (1935), Father Sniderhon, and Father Gerace (from 1950) — guided the parish through the Depression, built the present church (dedicated 1949) and school (1952), and launched Holy Trinity as a separate parish in 1965. The parish marked 100 years of Catholic history in 1976 and continues today as one of the largest in the Archdiocese.

Faith Formation & Sacraments
Faith Formation at St. Cecilia is offered for every age and stage, with programs in both English and Spanish. The RCIA/OCIA process (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) walks inquirers from October through May toward full initiation into the Catholic Church. Children from infancy through high school are prepared for Baptism, First Eucharist, Reconciliation, and Confirmation through age-appropriate tracks: infant baptism classes with required parent Mass attendance, middle-school preparation (grades 6–8) with Wednesday 6:30 PM meetings, and high-school preparation (grades 9–12) culminating in sponsor forms, essays, and weekend retreats.

St. Cecilia School
St. Cecilia School is a parish-affiliated Catholic elementary school that has served Beaverton since 1913. Today it enrolls approximately 312 students across preschool through eighth grade on its campus at 12250 SW 5th Street, with one classroom per grade and class sizes averaging 25–30 (preschool and TK classes are 20 per session). The mission of St. Cecilia School is to prepare students to be responsible citizens and life-long learners with strong Catholic values. The school has been recognized as a Top-Ranked Oregon Private School. Admission is parish-verified: active Catholic parish families receive enrollment priority, and applications open each January.

Music & Liturgical Ministries
Music ministry enriches weekend liturgy at St. Cecilia. At the Sunday 9:00 AM Mass a folk choir leads contemporary Catholic liturgical music accompanied by piano, guitar, and violin (other instruments welcome), rehearsing Wednesday evenings 6:00–7:15 PM and open to youth as young as 12. The SATB choir leads the 10:45 AM Mass with hymns and sacred music spanning many periods and cultures, and also sings Christmas Midnight Mass, Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord's Supper, and the Easter Vigil; rehearsals are Wednesdays 7:30–9:00 PM. Both choirs are coordinated by Music Director Lourdes Johanson.

Prayer & Adult Faith Groups
The parish nourishes the prayer life of adults through a range of groups. The Walking with Purpose Catholic Bible study for women meets every Thursday morning 9:00–11:00 AM in the Parish Center Fireside Room, with new studies launching each fall. Prayer Ministries include Prayer Alert, Prayer Shawl, the Grupo de Oración de la Renovación Carismática Católica, and a Contemplative Prayer Group — providing both charismatic and contemplative traditions side by side.

Youth & Young Adult Ministry
St. Cecilia's youth ministry is structured into a Youth Group focused on prayer, community, and discipleship, and a more formal Sacrament Preparation Class focused on catechesis and readiness for the Eucharist, Reconciliation, and Confirmation. Programs are offered for Middle School (grades 6–8), High School (grades 9–12), and Young Adults (ages 20–39), with bilingual ministry to Hispanic families.
