St. Catherine of Siena is a Roman Catholic parish in the Kendall area of Miami, Florida, established in 1968 to serve the growing white-collar families of south Miami-Dade. After six years of gathering for Mass in a local high school, the parish dedicated its own church in 1974. Today it is a multilingual community celebrating Mass in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, and is known for its diverse ministries, perpetual Eucharistic Adoration chapel, preschool, and as the mother parish that gave birth to Saint John Neumann, Good Shepherd, and Our Lady of Lourdes parishes.

Parish History
St. Catherine of Siena was established in 1968 to serve the predominantly white-collar families then settling in Kendall. For its first six years the community worshipped in a local high school while raising funds and planning the church, parish hall, religious education classrooms, and rectory. The parish dedicated its permanent church in 1974. During the 1980s and 1990s the parish shifted toward evangelization as Kendall's Hispanic population grew, and ministries diversified under leaders active in the Cursillo movement. A strong religious education program, music ministry, and a preschool were established during this period. The parish is also recognized as a mother community that gave rise to Saint John Neumann, Good Shepherd, and Our Lady of Lourdes parishes in South Dade.

Faith Formation & Religious Education
The parish's Youth Catechesis program, directed by Br. Iñigo Johnpaul, SCTJM, provides human, spiritual, intellectual, and practical formation for children and youth, preparing them to encounter Christ in the Eucharist. Two-year programs are offered for First Holy Communion (beginning in 1st grade) and Confirmation (beginning in 7th grade), as well as a two-year preparation for children over age 7 who have not yet been baptized. RCIA welcomes adults seeking initiation into the Catholic Church.

Bible Study & Adult Formation
Adult faith formation at St. Catherine includes weekly Bible study groups — an English group that meets on Monday evenings and a Spanish group that meets on Thursdays — each working through a book of the Bible over 10–12 sessions with a presentation followed by group discussion. The parish also offers the archdiocesan Emmaus weekend retreats twice a year, open to men and women in English and Spanish.

Sacraments
The parish prepares parishioners for all seven sacraments. Baptism begins with preparation of parents and godparents; First Communion and Confirmation are coordinated through the catechesis office; Marriage preparation is handled by Deacon Jose Villena; and Confessions are heard according to the published schedule. Trained advocates also assist parishioners petitioning the Metropolitan Tribunal for marriage annulments.

Parish Life & Fellowship
Beyond liturgy and formation, the parish maintains active lay communities that foster fellowship and cultural identity. The Brazilian Group hosts festivities, prayer, and worship alongside the Sunday evening Portuguese Mass. New Beginnings welcomes newcomers in three integrated sessions on interior life, parish life, and lay vocation. The Men's Prayer Breakfast gathers on Saturday mornings for fellowship and Scripture reflection in English.

Worship & Spirituality Groups
The parish cultivates a rich devotional life around the Eucharist, Our Lady, and Divine Mercy. Trained lectors, altar servers, sacristans, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, ushers, and the Liturgical Art team support the liturgy. Daily Rosary at Dawn is prayed at 6:30 AM on parish grounds, the Divine Mercy Chaplet is offered in English and Spanish, and Spanish-language prayer groups such as Alfarero and the Immaculate Conception Prayer Group meet weekly for praise and worship.

Christian Service & Outreach
Outreach is central to the parish's identity. Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion visit homebound parishioners and lead paraliturgical services at Palace Nursing Home, where the pastor celebrates Mass monthly. The St. Vincent de Paul Society provides emergency assistance to needy families in the community. Respect Life upholds the sanctity of life from conception to natural death, and the Angel Tree ministry gathers Christmas gifts for the children of the incarcerated.

Liturgical Ministries
Trained lay ministers play a vital role in every liturgy. Lectors proclaim the Word of God; altar servers assist the celebrant; sacristans prepare the liturgical books, vestments, and vessels; extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion assist with distribution; ushers welcome, seat, and assist the assembly; and the Liturgical Art and Environment team ensures the church is decorated appropriately for each liturgical season. The Music Ministry, directed by the Music Director, supports the liturgy and encourages congregational participation in both English and Spanish.
