Our History
St. Callistus Parish was established in 1878, according to both the Diocese of Erie parish directory and GCatholic. The parish cemetery on Route 66, just outside Kane, was established shortly after the parish's founding and has continued as an active ministry of the parish for well over a century. Our Patron — St. Callistus
The parish is named for St. Callistus I, Pope and Martyr, whose optional memorial is celebrated in the Roman calendar on October 14. He served as pope from about 217 until his martyrdom in 223, is credited with organizing early Christian burial grounds on the Appian Way in Rome (the Catacomb of St. Callistus), and is the patron saint of cemetery workers — an especially fitting patron for a parish that operates its own cemetery.
