History

The parish was established in 1893 in the rural Idylwilde community, during the era when Catholic settlers — many of German heritage — were establishing farming communities across southeast South Dakota. The parish takes the name of Saint Boniface (c. 675–754), the English Benedictine monk who became the 'Apostle of Germany' and whose feast day is celebrated on June 5. For more than a century, St. Boniface has sustained Catholic worship and sacramental life for farming families in this part of Hutchinson County.
