History

Established April 9, 1901 to serve Hobson's German, Czech, and Polish immigrant Catholic families. The original church was damaged by a 1942 hurricane and rebuilt. In 1916 the diocese acquired a former local hospital (the Simon Sanitarium) and used it as the parish school until 1934; the building was sold in 1991 and moved to Karnes City. The parish celebrated its centennial in 2001 with a commemorative history by Sylvester Trial.

Founding Community

Hobson was originally platted as 'Castine' along the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway in the 1890s and renamed in 1899 after Spanish-American War hero Capt. Richmond Pearson Hobson. The town was settled largely by families of German, Czech, and Polish descent, and St. Boniface was their parish church from the start.
