History of the Parish
Catholic life in Grampian dates to 1840, when the community's first church was blessed by Bishop Francis Kenrick of Philadelphia on the site of what is still the parish cemetery. Early Masses were infrequent — a traveling priest celebrated the sacraments only every few months — and St. Bonaventure was served as a mission of St. Francis Parish in Clearfield. A second church was built in 1869; the present church was completed in 1897. In 1904 St. Bonaventure was established as a parish with its own resident pastor. In 1992 it began sharing one pastor with neighboring St. Timothy, Curwensville. On December 2, 2023, Bishop Lawrence Persico's decree merging St. Bonaventure Parish into St. Timothy Parish took effect, transferring all sacramental records, assets and liabilities to St. Timothy, while St. Bonaventure church continues as a secondary mission church of the merged parish.
