History

St. Bernadette Parish was established in 1963 as the first new Catholic parish in South Omaha in 30 years. With no building initially, Mass was held in a home’s basement. The current church was dedicated on May 8, 1966, and included a school. The parish celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1988 and 50th in 2013. Key milestones include the founding of the Altar Society and Holy Name Society in 1963, CCD classes starting in 1968, and the ordination of pastor Rev. Anthony Milone as a bishop in 1982.

Faith is the cornerstone of our church. It is part of every activity that we do, every meeting that we hold. We believe in our Lord, and that our actions are a reflection of his goodness. Ministries & Events

The parish offers a wide range of ministries including Altar Society, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Junior Legion of Mary, Legion of Mary, OCIA Family, Faith Formation, Women's Club, Men's Club, and Parish Council. Events include St. Bernadette Pasta Dinner, March Madness, Cinnamon Roll Sunday, Lenten Fish Frys, Chicken Dinners, Game On Turkey Dinner, Woman of the Year Luncheon, Husker Nights at Holy Ghost, and Valentine’s Salad Luncheon.

Sacraments & Education

The parish offers all seven sacraments: Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Marriage, and Holy Orders. Catholic education is a priority, with the school enrolling nearly 275 children and the Religious Education Program serving over 100 grade school children through faith formation led by the director, parish volunteers, teachers, and aides.
