St. Benedict the Moor Parish History
The roots of St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church extend back to 1925, when the Anderson's family donated property for the church. It was initially located on Highway 90 and served parishioners from both Scott and Duson. The church was destroyed by fire and rebuilt in 1937 through the generosity of Alcide Antoine Jr. The completed church school was dedicated in August 1939. The parish was served by SVD pastors from 1937 until 1966, when a new church was dedicated. The current church was dedicated in 1966 with Father Dauphine as pastor.
