Why belong here

St. Benedict is a welcoming Wallingford parish of about 500 families that shares its campus with St. Benedict School, offers a school Mass on the first Thursday of each month, a Sunday 11 AM Mass with a live-streamed Children's Liturgy of the Word, and a 3rd-Sunday-of-the-month Youth Mass. Mission & History

St. Benedict Parish has served Seattle's north end since 1906. Its mission statement reads: 'Led by the Spirit of God, St. Benedict Parish is a welcoming Catholic Community living and sharing the love of Jesus Christ through prayer, service, lifelong learning, and stewardship.' The community of roughly 500 families continues the 'pioneer spirit' of its founders, who financed church, school, and convent through sacrificial giving over generations.

  • Founded August 6, 1906 by Bishop (later Archbishop) Edward J. O'Dea
  • Early Mass celebrated in a rented hall; church basement ready by 1907
  • School dedicated in 1925 at a cost of $144,000
  • Original church condemned; Mass moved to school auditorium from 1934
  • Current church and rectory dedicated October 1955 by Archbishop Thomas A. Connolly, D.D.
  • Parishioners saved nearly $400,000 for the new church
  • Convent expanded in 1958 for $163,000; dedicated July 11, 1959
