History of the Parish
St. Augustine Catholic Church was established in 1955 in the (then) Diocese of Galveston-Houston to serve Catholics in the southeast Houston / Sims Bayou area. Over the decades it grew into a bilingual community with a parish school, faith formation programs, a music ministry and an annual bazaar, and it developed a strong Eucharistic devotional life centered on a weekly Wednesday Adoration and a Thursday evening Hora Santa in Spanish. Pastoral leadership has rotated through the Archdiocese's regular appointment process, with Rev. Dwight Canizares and Rev. Frederico J.G. Ablog, S.S.S. (Parochial Vicar) earlier assigned, and Rev. Paul Foltyn currently serving as Pastor.
