St. Anthony of Padua is a small Catholic mission church serving the rural community of Carnation, Washington, in the Snoqualmie Valley about 20 miles east of Seattle. As a mission within the Archdiocese of Seattle, it has been part of the spiritual life of east King County since 1914, when local Catholics built the original church on land donated by a Tolt (now Carnation) family. History of St. Anthony of Padua
St. Anthony Mission was founded in 1914, when Catholics in the small Snoqualmie Valley town of Tolt (now Carnation) built a permanent church on land donated by local resident Ronald McDonald. Construction was funded with help from the Catholic Extension Society and a $500 private gift. The new church was dedicated by Bishop Edward O'Dea on November 13, 1914, and celebrated its first Mass a week earlier on November 6. For its first fifteen years, the mission shared a priest with the parish in Monroe and could only offer Mass monthly; in 1929 it became an independent mission with weekly Mass. The community marked its centennial in 2014 with a year-long celebration and renovation, capped by a centennial Mass with Archbishop J. Peter Sartain on October 26, 2014.

St. Anthony Mission is served by the pastoral team of Parish Family 25, which includes St. Jude (Redmond) and Holy Innocents (Duvall). The pastor, Father James O. Johnson, Jr., oversees all three communities, and is assisted by Parochial Vicar Father Raphael Ambadan and Deacon Mirek Sztanjo. Pastoral Associate Debby Weidner, Pastoral Assistant Sabrina Parnell (who also serves as Music Coordinator at St. Anthony), Food Pantry Coordinator Janice Asmus, and the rest of the parish-family staff support the mission's liturgical, administrative, and outreach life. A Spanish-language Mass is offered once a month as part of the mission's Hispanic ministry.

Liturgical Ministries
St. Anthony Mission welcomes parishioners to serve in the liturgical life of the church. The mission is always looking for liturgical ministers, help with maintaining the grounds, and volunteers for potlucks and other events. Ministries are coordinated through the Holy Innocents parish office and staffed by members of all three parish-family communities.

- Eucharistic Minister — serves the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass and to the sick and homebound
- Altar Server — boys and girls grade 3 and above assisting the priest at liturgy
- Sacristan — cares for altar linens, vestments, vessels, candles, and candle holders
- Usher — supervises seating and collections
- Greeter — warmly welcomes parishioners as they arrive for Mass

Faith Formation and Sacramental Preparation
As part of Parish Family 25, St. Anthony Mission shares the faith formation and sacramental preparation programs of Holy Innocents Catholic Church in Duvall. Families with children in sacramental years, candidates for Confirmation, adults seeking baptism or full communion (RCIA), and engaged couples preparing for marriage are all served through the parish family's coordinated catechetical programs. The parish family also runs a Youth Formation program and a Youth Ambassadors initiative, and a Nursery Co-op for young families during Mass.

Parish Life, Outreach, and Pastoral Care
St. Anthony Mission is part of a vibrant parish family whose outreach touches hundreds of families in the Snoqualmie Valley. The Holy Innocents food pantry, staffed largely by parish-family volunteers, distributes two bags of groceries to an average of 60 households each week and is open Tuesdays 3:00–6:30 pm and Wednesdays 10:00 am–noon. The local Society of St. Vincent de Paul conference makes home visits to neighbors in need, supported by a twice-monthly reflection and meeting. Additional outreach includes a Thanksgiving meal program, Giving Tree gifts in November, a back-to-school supply drive, and Catholic Relief Services (CRS) parish ambassadors participating in the CRS Rice Bowl.

The Church Building and Stained-Glass Window Project
St. Anthony Mission's church building has stood at 31911 E. Blanche Street in Carnation since 1914. The simple, traditional interior was significantly refreshed during the 2014 centennial, with the refurbishment of vintage light fixtures and replacement of pew cushions and kneeler pads. The most visible change has been the gradual replacement of plain colored windows with a series of stained-glass windows. The first, installed for the centennial, depicts St. Anthony of Padua himself on the right side of the church. The second, funded by the parish's Hispanic community, depicts Our Lady of Guadalupe, and four more windows are planned to highlight scenes of God's creation unique to the Snoqualmie Valley, including Snoqualmie Falls.

Getting Involved
St. Anthony Mission welcomes new members and visitors with a special invitation to share their time and talent. Whether serving in a liturgical role, helping maintain the church grounds, supporting a potluck or parish event, joining the music ministry, or volunteering with the parish family's food pantry or St. Vincent de Paul conference, there are opportunities for nearly every interest and schedule. The mission especially invites families with young children and Spanish-speaking parishioners to make St. Anthony their home.
