History of the Parish

St. Anthony Church was originally an independent Catholic parish under the Diocese of Pittsburgh. In 1993 it was merged with the Church of St. Peter in Slippery Rock, creating a single St. Peter Parish that retained both church buildings. After Bishop David Zubik's 2015 'On Mission for The Church Alive!' initiative, the parish was grouped with Saint Alphonsus (Boyers/Murrinsville/West Sunbury) and Saint Christopher (Prospect). On January 4, 2021 those parishes were formally merged to create Saint Faustina Parish. The parish takes its name from Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska, the Polish nun associated with the Divine Mercy devotion.

  • 1993: St. Anthony merged with St. Peter, Slippery Rock
  • 2015: Bishop Zubik launches 'On Mission for The Church Alive!'
  • 2018: Parishes grouped for the new multi-site model
  • January 4, 2021: Saint Faustina Parish formally established
  • All four church buildings remained open

Devotions and Prayer Life

In addition to weekday Mass and Adoration, St. Faustina Parish gathers for the Divine Mercy Chaplet twice a week — on Thursdays at 8:15 AM at St. Peter Church and on Mondays at 8:45 AM at St. Christopher Church, ending before Mass begins. An online version of the chaplet is also linked from the parish site. Wednesdays feature Bible Study with Father Sean at 9:00 AM, and 'Scripture-cize' small-group faith-sharing meets on weeknights (6:00–7:00 PM) and on Saturday mornings (8:30–9:30 AM).

  • Divine Mercy Chaplet — Mon 8:45 AM (St. Christopher), Thu 8:15 AM (St. Peter)

Parish Ministries and Community Life

St. Faustina Parish runs a steady rhythm of ministries and community events. The Sewing Ministry meets Tuesdays at 10:00 AM. The Knights of Columbus are active in the parish (with events such as the Knights of Columbus Golf Outing). The parish also maintains two advisory bodies — the Pastoral Council and the Finance Council — which assist the pastor in stewardship, visioning, and planning, as required by the Diocese of Pittsburgh's Means for Mission guidelines. Each summer the parish hosts a Parish Festival, typically over a July weekend, with food, fellowship, and a parish Mass schedule built around it.

  • Sewing Ministry — Tue 10:00 AM
  • Knights of Columbus (with annual Golf Outing)
  • Pastoral Council (visioning and planning)
  • Finance Council (4-year terms, appointed by pastor)
  • Annual Parish Festival (July)

Pastoral Plan and Vision

The parish publishes a current Pastoral Plan each year, downloadable from the homepage. Its stated Parish Vision is: 'Guided by Sacred Scripture and Catholic Tradition, we are committed to creating a vibrant, compassionate, and welcoming Parish Community.' This vision is reflected in the multi-site structure that keeps four historic church buildings open and in the mix of devotional, educational, and service opportunities offered throughout the week.

  • Vision: vibrant, compassionate, welcoming community rooted in Scripture and Tradition
  • Annual Pastoral Plan available for download
  • Single clergy team serves all four worship sites
