St. Ann–St. Ignatius is a Roman Catholic parish in the Diocese of Grand Rapids serving Lake County in the northwest lower peninsula of Michigan. It is one of the smaller parishes of the diocese but covers a wide geographic area by means of two worship sites and a multi-parish cluster. The parish belongs to the Northwest Deanery of the Diocese of Grand Rapids and is clustered with St. Bernard Parish in Irons and St. John Cantius in Free Soil, with all four churches sharing the pastoral ministry of Rev. Matthew J. Barnum.

History

St. Ann Parish was founded in 1916 in the village of Baldwin to serve Catholic families in this rural part of Lake County. For most of its history it functioned as an independent parish. In 2011, as part of a broader diocesan reorganization, St. Ann merged with St. Ignatius Chapel in the nearby community of Luther, and the combined entity was reestablished under the name St. Ann–St. Ignatius Parish. Since then the parish has also entered a pastoral cluster with neighboring St. Bernard (Irons) and St. John Cantius (Free Soil), sharing clergy and resources across the four worship sites.

St. Ann Church, Baldwin

St. Ann Church is the founding parish church, established in 1916 and located on M-37 (Michigan Avenue) one block south of US-10 at the corner of Ninth Street in downtown Baldwin. The parish office and rectory are located nearby at 740 E. Ninth Street, Baldwin. The church is wheelchair accessible and serves as the principal site for parish administration.

St. Ignatius Chapel, Luther

St. Ignatius Chapel is a mission chapel of St. Ann–St. Ignatius Parish located at 701 State Street in the village of Luther. The chapel was formally merged with St. Ann Parish in 2011. It hosts a Sunday Mass each week for the Luther-area faithful and is also wheelchair accessible.

Clergy & Staff

The parish is served by Rev. Matthew J. Barnum, who is pastor of St. Ann–St. Ignatius Parish (Baldwin/Luther) and also pastor of St. Bernard Parish in Irons. Bishop Walkowiak has announced that effective July 1, 2026 Fr. Barnum will additionally be appointed pastor of St. John Cantius Parish in Free Soil, while retaining his two current assignments. During the 2020 pastoral transition, Rev. Thomas Page (pastor of St. Jude Parish) was named Administrator of St. Ann–St. Ignatius from March 17, 2020 to June 30, 2020.
