History of the Parish

St. Ann's Church was incorporated as a Wyoming nonprofit corporation on December 23, 1912, making it one of the longstanding Catholic institutions in southern Wyoming. It belongs to the Diocese of Cheyenne, established in 1887, which traces the broader history of Catholicism in Wyoming to July 5, 1840, when Father Pierre-Jean DeSmet celebrated the first Catholic Mass near Horse Creek at the Green River Rendezvous in present-day Sublette County. The parish has long served Saratoga, a small ranching and resort town, while its sister mission in Hanna extends its reach across Carbon County.
