About St. Ann of St. Matthias Parish

St. Ann Church is one of four worship sites of Saint Matthias Parish, the Catholic Community of Greene County, in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Located at 232 East High Street in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, the parish traces its roots to 1839 when the original church was dedicated. St. Ann now shares clergy and pastoral resources with St. Hugh Church in Carmichaels, St. Ignatius of Antioch Church in Bobtown, and St. Marcellus Church in Jefferson, forming a unified four-church collaborative that serves Greene County Catholics.

History of St. Ann Church

St. Ann's original Waynesburg church was dedicated on July 28, 1839, with a second dedication recorded on October 29, 1871, reflecting the parish's continued growth and physical development in the nineteenth century. Over time, St. Ann joined with the other historic Catholic churches of Greene County to form what is now known as Saint Matthias Parish—the Catholic Community of Greene County. This consolidation preserved each historic worship site while pooling pastoral leadership across the county.
