Why belong here
St. Ann is the kind of small-country parish where the priest knows every family and the Mass feels like a community gathering. It belongs to a seven-parish pastorate that means parishioners also worship regularly at St. Patrick in Montrose and the other surrounding churches, and it offers real lay involvement through Court St. Thomas #1533 of the Catholic Daughters (which meets at St. Ann's Hall), the Montrose-Humboldt Knights of Columbus council #10296, parish discipleship and evangelization work coordinated by Maggan Krempges, and seasonal programs like Totus Tuus, the annual Senior Citizen Mini Retreat, Divine Mercy devotions and a parish pro-life chapter.

History
Catholic missionary priests visited the Humboldt area as part of their Dakota Territory rounds before the parish itself was formally established and a church erected in 1907. For most of its history St. Ann was linked with neighboring St. Patrick of Montrose, with the two parishes sharing a priest and rotating Masses. Effective July 1, 2021, Bishop Donald E. DeGrood formally incorporated St. Ann and St. Patrick into the broader seven-parish St. Mary Magdalen Pastorate as part of the diocese's continuing Pastoral Plan. Through the late 20th and early 21st centuries the parish has been led by Fr. Bob Krantz, Fr. Terry Weber, Fr. James Zimmer (now a diocesan senior priest) and today Fr. Melvin Kuhn, with Deacon Francis Graff and Sr. Jane Schoenfelder serving on parish staff in earlier years.
