St. Angela Merici is a Roman Catholic parish in Missouri City, Texas, founded October 1, 2007 by Archbishop Daniel Cardinal DiNardo within the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. The parish serves the Sienna Plantation community and surrounding area on a 26-acre campus at 9009 Sienna Ranch Road, with a current church that seats over 1,000 worshippers and a pastoral reach of more than 2,000 households. Parish History & Founding
St. Angela Merici was established on October 1, 2007 by Archbishop Daniel Cardinal DiNardo as a new Catholic parish for the growing Sienna Plantation / Missouri City area of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, with 26 acres of land set aside for the eventual church campus. Father John Rooney was named founding pastor that summer, and the parish's first Mass was celebrated on June 22, 2008 in a leased facility called the PLEX in Stafford. Ground was broken on the parish property on September 20, 2009 with Archbishop Emeritus Joseph Fiorenza presiding, and the Parish Life Center opened on September 4, 2010. The current church was dedicated on October 30, 2017 after an extended timeline caused by Hurricane Harvey's tornadoes and flooding in the community.

Church Building & Campus
The 2017 church building seats over 1,000 worshippers and is the visual centerpiece of the campus, accented by custom stained glass and a 12-foot-tall San Damiano Cross suspended behind the altar. A relic of St. Angela Merici is set in the base of the altar. The Parish Life Center (PLC), originally opened in 2010, contains the parish's first 500-seat worship space along with meeting rooms, classrooms and a hospitality area; it was renovated in 2016–2017 to add more classrooms as part of the church-and-administration-building project.

Faith Formation & Religious Education
Faith Formation at St. Angela Merici spans the whole life of the parish. Elementary Faith Formation (grades K–5) meets on Mondays or Tuesdays with afternoon or early-evening sessions, plus a Home Study option. Edge middle-school ministry meets on Wednesday evenings, and Life Teen high-school ministry meets on Sunday evenings. Sacramental preparation follows the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston's two-year model, with First Reconciliation/First Communion for children entering 2nd grade or higher, and Confirmation for teens in 10th grade or older (Cardinal DiNardo's mandated minimum age is 16).

OCIA (Becoming Catholic)
Adults who are discerning entering the Catholic Church take part in the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA, formerly RCIA), with inquiry sessions held in the summertime, once a month. Children over age 7 who are unbaptized or baptized in another Christian tradition follow OCIA for Children, a structured two-year process of foundational and immediate sacramental preparation that culminates in the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil.

Liturgical Ministries
An orientation session and current Archdiocesan Safe Environment training are required for every liturgical volunteer. St. Angela Merici fields a wide team across the Mass — altar servers (boys and girls age 10 and up), sacristans, proclaimers of the Word, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, ushers and greeters, the Altar Guild caring for vestments and linens, the Art and Environment team who decorate the church for the seasons, and the Homebound Ministry that brings Communion to the sick and elderly. Pius Leung serves as the parish's Liturgy Coordinator.

Sacraments & Sacramental Preparation
The parish accompanies families through all of the Church's seven sacraments. Infant Baptism (newborns through age 7) requires parents and godparents to complete a 6-hour formation combining online videos with an in-person Saturday class in the SAM Room (church building) — upcoming sessions in 2026 fall on June 6, August 1, October 10 and December 5. The Marriage preparation process begins by contacting the parish office. First Sacraments follow a home-based model with parents as catechists, while Confirmation follows the two-year parish policy leading up to reception of the sacrament at age 16 or older.

Parish Groups & Outreach
Outside the sanctuary, parishioners serve the wider community through groups such as the local Knights of Columbus council (led by Grand Knight Truitt Raun) and the parish's Society of St. Vincent de Paul conference, which provides short-term financial, material and emotional support to neighbors in need in the Missouri City/Arcola area. Each Lent the Knights run the '40 Cans for Lent' food drive benefiting Sacred Heart in Manvel and the Mamie George Community Center in Richmond, and they host parish pancake breakfasts after Sunday Masses to raise funds for causes like the Gabriel Project of Sacred Heart of Manvel.

Children, Youth & Family
Beyond faith formation classes, the parish invests in young families through St. Angela's Angels, a Catholic-centered Mother's Day Out (MDO) program / preschool. Older teens are encouraged to sign up each spring for the Steubenville Lone Star Catholic youth conference held in Dallas, TX at the Irving Convention Center — a high-energy weekend of talks, Eucharistic Adoration, Reconciliation and Mass led by Merrie Guerra, the Director of Youth Ministry. Melanie Lubrano coordinates the middle-school Edge program.

Parish Governance & Staff
Day-to-day parish operations are supported by a team that includes a Liturgy Coordinator, a Director of Adult Faith Formation (Claudia Sereno), the Director of Youth Ministry, the Middle School Faith Formation Coordinator, and the parish office. The Finance Council — chaired by Monica Agostinelli with members Peter Dillett, Joe Olickan, Jack Sim, Cindy Dunigan and Joe Scranton — consults with the pastor on financial and administrative decisions, including fundraising. All clergy, staff and volunteers must complete the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston Safe Environment training and background check, with renewal every five years.
