Parish History & the On Mission Merger
Mary, Mother of God Parish in White Oak was formally established on January 6, 2020, the Solemnity of the Epiphany, as the fruit of Bishop David Zubik's April 12, 2015 diocesan initiative 'On Mission for The Church Alive!' That process gathered feedback from the faithful, then in 2018 grouped four parishes under a single clergy team: St. Patrick (McKeesport/Versailles), Corpus Christi (McKeesport), St. Angela Merici (White Oak), and St. Robert Bellarmine (East McKeesport). On January 6, 2020 those four became one parish. In spring 2021 a Resource Task Force studied the parish's buildings and recommended reducing Sunday-worship locations from four to two; that consolidation took effect on the weekend of January 14–15, 2023.
