It is part of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh's 'On Mission for the Church Alive!' renewal initiative and worships across three historic church buildings: Mary, Mother of the Church in Charleroi, Our Lady of the Valley in Donora, and St. Damien of Molokai in Monongahela. About St. Andrew the Apostle Parish
St. Andrew the Apostle Parish is a Roman Catholic community of faith, hope, and love serving the Mid-Monongahela Valley in southwestern Pennsylvania. Formed in January 2020, the parish draws the Catholic faithful from the towns of Monongahela, Donora, and Charleroi, and from neighboring communities. Our History
St. Andrew the Apostle Parish traces its roots to 2019, as part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh's 'On Mission for the Church Alive!' Renewal and Revitalization. The Diocese launched this initiative in 2014 with the goal of each parish offering a deeper relationship with Jesus and His Church; for five years the faithful — including those here in the Mid-Monongahela Valley — considered, prayed, and planned how to best serve God and His people. Valley parishioners began worshipping together and sharing resources in October 2018, and the new parish formally came into being in January 2020.

Faith Formation & Religious Education
St. Andrew's Faith Formation Program exists to help parents — the first and most important teachers of the faith — share a true understanding of God's revealed love in Scripture and Tradition. The program is built around four components: in-person classes (10:00–11:30 AM at the Charleroi site), four Family Catechesis gatherings a year after the 9:00 AM Mass in Marian Hall, weekly Lectio Divina (guided Sunday Scripture reflection via Zoom at 10:30 AM), and Advent/Lenten Liturgy & Family Prayer gatherings that include the opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Following the standard of the parish and the Diocese of Pittsburgh, students must complete 30 hours per grade level, with 35.75 hours scheduled for the 2025–2026 year. Children's Liturgy of the Word is offered for Pre-K through Grade 2 during the 9:00 AM Sunday Mass on class days.

Formation for Adults (OCIA / RCIA)
The parish runs a year-round adult formation process at the Charleroi Rectory every Thursday at 7:00 PM for anyone seeking the Sacraments of the Catholic Faith. The process is open to unbaptized adults and children at the age of reason (age 7+), Christians baptized in another tradition seeking full communion, and baptized Catholics who have not yet received First Communion or Confirmation. The parish describes its adult formation as grounded in the four dimensions of catechesis: the Ministry of the Word, the Ministry of Community, the Ministry of Worship, and the Ministry of Service.

Music & Liturgy
Music and liturgical preparation are coordinated parish-wide by a Director of Music/Liturgy, supporting the celebration of Mass across the three worship sites. The parish community is regularly invited — in the words of its homepage — to 'pray, petition, sing, and gather around the Eucharistic Table of our Beloved Savior, Jesus Christ,' reflecting the centrality of sung prayer and the liturgy of the Eucharist to parish life.

Outreach & Social Ministry
St. Andrew the Apostle Parish is widely recognized in the Mid-Mon Valley for its concrete social outreach. Since the parish merged, a food pantry offering dry and canned goods and toiletries has served communities in Charleroi, Monongahela, and Donora on the second Wednesday of each month from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. In 2025 the parish partnered with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to launch a 'choice market' distribution at the Charleroi site (2nd Tuesday, 9:30–11:00 AM), where families 'shop' for groceries and household items. The parish also runs a Pet Food Pantry with the Washington Area Humane Society (launched March 2025) and a Diaper Bank in partnership with Catholic Charities (opened January 2025), which already serves about 60 families. Business Manager Joe Caruso and Social Minister / Evangelist Philip Pierangeli are key staff leading this work, supported by roughly three dozen parish volunteers.

Madonna Catholic Regional School
Although it is its own institution, Madonna Catholic Regional School is closely linked to St. Andrew the Apostle Parish and is staffed from the parish team. Founded in 1998 from the merger of the schools of the three predecessor parishes, Madonna Catholic Regional serves preschool through eighth grade at 731 Chess Street in Monongahela, with parish Faith Formation Director Kathy Miller also serving as principal. It is described as the Diocese's last remaining Catholic school in the Mid-Mon Valley, drawing students from across Charleroi, Donora, and Monongahela, and is celebrated for its family atmosphere and strong academic programs.
