About St. Andrew · Riverton, Utah

Saint Andrew Catholic Parish is a Roman Catholic parish in Riverton, Utah, situated in the southwest corner of the Salt Lake Valley and part of the Diocese of Salt Lake City. The parish was officially established in 2006 by Bishop George Niederauer to serve the rapidly growing communities of South Jordan, Herriman, Riverton, and Bluffdale, and it shares its campus with Saint Andrew Catholic School, which opened in 2008. The community worships in both English and Spanish, offers a full schedule of daily and weekend Masses, and runs a wide range of lay ministries including a Knights of Columbus council, Women's Society, food pantry through the Utah Food Bank, religious education, choir, and Bible study. Its current pastor is Father Joseph D. Delka, assisted by Deacons Mike Bulson and Duane Padilla, and the parish is still fundraising to build a permanent, separate church building — weekend Masses are currently celebrated in the school gymnasium.

Why belong here

Saint Andrew is a young, bilingual, and growing Catholic community in the southwest Salt Lake Valley that worships in both English and Spanish and offers a full sacramental life — daily Mass, weekend Masses, confession before every liturgy, Eucharistic adoration, and faith formation for children and adults. The parish is supported by an unusually active lay community, with a Knights of Columbus council, Women's Society, Utah Food Bank pantry, Bible study, choir, and religious education programs, all under the care of a stable pastoral team led by Father Joseph Delka. Families especially benefit from the on-campus Saint Andrew Catholic School (PK3 through 8th grade), and the parish's small, close-knit feel makes it easy to get involved.

History of Saint Andrew Parish

Saint Andrew Parish was erected December 12, 2005 by Bishop George Niederauer to serve the booming south end of Salt Lake County, and the founding pastor was the Rev. Francisco Pires. The first Masses were celebrated August 6, 2006 in the rectory basement at 3129 Martinez Way in Riverton with about 15 people at each Mass, and religious education classes met in a local mortuary. For nearly two years the Sunday liturgy was celebrated at the Megaplex movie theater at The District before the community moved into the school gymnasium. The parish and school complex was blessed and dedicated by Bishop John C. Wester on September 13, 2008, and the building itself was a gift to the diocese from the ALSAM Foundation. Father Pires has since moved on, and Father Joseph D. Delka is the current pastor of both parish and school.

Marian Prayer Garden & Future Church

Saint Andrew is in the midst of two major building projects on its campus. The school is constructing a Marian Prayer Garden — an outdoor prayer and classroom space centered on a statue of Mary, with a fountain, Stations of the Cross, a custom wooden arch covered in blooming wisteria, and white roses symbolizing Mary's Immaculate nature. The garden is being funded by the ALSAM Foundation and is intended to function as an outdoor classroom extension of the religion curriculum. At the same time, the parish is fundraising to construct a permanent, separate church building so that weekend Masses no longer need to be celebrated in the school gymnasium.

  • Centered on a statue of Mary with fountain and Stations of the Cross
