History of St. Aidan Parish
St. Aidan Parish was founded in 1963 in Livonia, Michigan, during a major period of growth for the Archdiocese of Detroit. A parish-published history, 'St. Aidan's Church 1963–1988,' chronicles the community's early decades, and a 2006 'Rededication' booklet marks a more recent milestone. The parish is most strongly identified with its founding pastor, Msgr. Alexander Joseph Brunett, who was assigned in 1973 and served for 18 years while simultaneously serving as the archdiocese's ecumenical and interreligious affairs director. Under his leadership, the parish built its worship and gathering spaces, started a summer Harvest Festival, ran adult Bible studies, and organized Holy Land pilgrimages. Brunett left in 1991 and was later named Bishop of Helena (1994) and Archbishop of Seattle (1997–2010), but returned to Livonia often and was remembered with a packed memorial Mass at St. Aidan in 2019 after his death at age 86.

Faith Formation & Family Formation
St. Aidan's signature religious-education program is called Family Formation. Once a month on Sunday, the entire family attends the 9:30 AM Mass, shares a hot breakfast, and then splits into parent and child groups for grade-level catechesis — childcare is provided for little ones. At home, families work together through workbook chapters tied to the parish topic. Sacraments at St. Aidan
The parish celebrates the seven Catholic sacraments according to the standard Archdiocese of Detroit norms. Baptisms for infants are celebrated on the third Sunday of each month following the 11:30 AM Mass, with a parent preparation session on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM. Children of catechetical age enter a September-through-Easter preparation program and are baptized during the Easter season. First Reconciliation and First Communion are prepared in second grade within the Family Formation program. Confirmation follows a two-year preparation, with a spring 2027 celebration including a retreat at the Bl. Solanus Casey Center in Detroit. Marriage requires at least six months of preparation and the engagement of one registered parishioner; arrangements begin with the Parish Office. The parish also brings Communion and Anointing to the sick and offers a communal Anointing on the last Sunday of the month after the 11:30 AM Mass.

Children, Youth & Vacation Bible School
Beyond Family Formation, St. Aidan runs a Vacation Bible School each summer. The 2026 program is 'Rainforest Falls: Exploring the Nature of God,' held June 15–19, 2026 from 9:00 AM to noon. Registration is $35 per participant and is completed online through the parish website. The parish also has a Youth Minister on staff (Paul Pyrkosz), supporting teen faith life alongside Confirmation preparation.

Music & Liturgy
Elizabeth Dyc serves as Director of Music Ministry, leading the parish's liturgical music program. Music supports St. Aidan's three Sunday Masses (including the family-oriented 9:30 AM) and the various weekday Masses and devotions.
