About Shrine of The Sacred Heart (Polish Jesuits) · Chicago, Illinois
The Shrine of the Sacred Heart (Sanktuarium Najświętszego Serca Pana Jezusa), popularly known as the Jezuicki Ośrodek Millenijny (Jesuit Millennium Center) or JOM, is a Polish-language Catholic shrine on the northwest side of Chicago at 5835 W. Irving Park Road, in the Portage Park neighborhood. Run by Polish Jesuits of the Society of Jesus under the Archdiocese of Chicago, it serves as the central hub of Polish worship, Ignatian spirituality, and Polish diaspora cultural life for the metropolitan area. The shrine traces its spiritual lineage to the historic 'Posłaniec Serca Jezusa' (Polish Messenger of the Sacred Heart) magazine once published in America by Polish Jesuits, and today combines an active devotional, sacramental, counseling, and cultural ministry that draws roughly 2,000 faithful to its weekend Masses — many travelling up to 60 miles.

Why belong here
The Shrine of the Sacred Heart is the spiritual home of Polish Chicago — a place where Polish-speaking Catholics from across the metropolitan area (and even from up to 60 miles away) come to hear the Mass in their mother tongue, receive the sacraments, and find a sense of belonging in diaspora. What makes it distinctive is the integration of Ignatian spirituality, Sacred Heart devotion, professional counseling ('Psychotherapy and Faith' group), peer-support communities, marriage preparation, and active cultural programming (library, café, Polish Writers' Association 'ANEKS'). Whether you are a recent Polish immigrant, an American-born child of Polonia, or simply seeking a warm, family-friendly, deeply devotional Catholic community, JOM offers both Sunday Mass for over 1,000 faithful and intimate small groups for marriage, psychology, literature, and prayer.

History of the Shrine
The Shrine of the Sacred Heart at 5835 W. Irving Park Road opened in February 2001 as the Jezuicki Ośrodek Millenijny (Jesuit Millennium Center), growing out of a 1933 Polish Jesuit chapel at 4105 N. Avers Avenue. The Polish Jesuits built JOM in response to the changing pastoral needs of Polish immigrants and American-born generations of Polonia, who required an extra-territorial, relational space rather than a traditional ethnic territorial parish. The Sacred Heart devotion — propagated by Polish Jesuits through the historic magazine Posłaniec Serca Jezusa and rooted in the broader Jesuit tradition since St. Claude La Colombière — became the spiritual center of the new shrine.
