Why belong here
All Saints / Todos los Santos Parish is the largest Catholic parish consolidation in the Archdiocese of Hartford, weaving together six former Waterbury congregations into a single multicultural family at the Shrine of St. Anne, Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Francis Xavier. Mass is celebrated in English, Spanish and Italian to serve the city's large Latino and Italian-American populations, while the Shrine retains its identity as a pilgrimage destination for mothers through relics of St. Anne, matching side shrines, and the signature Boar's Head Festival. Active faith formation for 400 children, OCIA/OICA for 65+ adults, a choir and music ministry, food festivals and a robust Hispanic apostolate make it a living parish in the heart of the Brass City.

History of the Shrine of St. Anne
Saint Anne Parish was founded in 1886 for Waterbury's French-Canadian immigrants; the first Mass was celebrated in the Universalist Trinity chapel on Grand Street by Father Joseph W. Fones. A first church on Dover Street was dedicated in 1889. Construction of the present monumental French Gothic Revival church on South Main Street began in 1906, with the basement in use by 1910; the building was finished and dedicated on December 17, 1922 by Bishop John J. Nilan. Two devastating interior fires (1971 and 1978) led to the original stenciling and murals being painted over; restoration began in 2004 under the Friends of St. Anne, the church was designated the Shrine of Saint Anne for Mothers in 2005, and relics of St. Anne were installed. The 2018 collapse of marble from the steeples forced the towers' careful dismantling in 2019.

Architecture and the Restored Interior
Designed by the Boston firm Chickering & O'Connell and built by the Granite Construction Company of Fall River, Massachusetts, the church is a steel-and-brick structure on a granite base, sheathed in Vermont blue marble. A rose window lights the entrance and a copper-topped dome crowns the sanctuary; twin marble-clad steeples flanked it until 2019. The interior — restored by the John Canning Painting and Restoration Studio in multiple phases beginning in 2005 — uses a deliberately feminine palette of pastel pinks, silver leaf, fleur-de-lis ornament and stenciled murals, with a 'chapel of sorrow' (True Cross relic) and a 'chapel of happiness' (relic of St. Anne) flanking the sanctuary. A stone statue of St. Anne with the child Mary stands in the front gable.

Friends of St. Anne and the Restoration Campaign
The Friends of St. Anne is an independent nonprofit of area citizens founded in 2004 by Ron Bouchard, Fern Verriker, Bob Dorr and Ralph Monti to raise funds for the restoration of the Shrine. With master restorer John Canning and his studio, they have restored the choir loft, apse, two side altars and front transepts, and are currently restoring the side aisles (Phase 3). The Friends conduct Sunday-afternoon tours of the Shrine at 2:00 PM (about one hour) and have raised more than $300,000 toward a project originally budgeted at $200,000. A separate ~$5 million campaign is planned to reconstruct the dismantled steeples.
