Patron: St. Juan Diego
The mission is named in honor of St. Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin, the 16th-century Mexican indigenous layman to whom the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared at Tepeyac near Mexico City in December 1531. His vision gave rise to the devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patroness of Mexico and of the Americas, which is especially beloved in the predominantly Mexican-American Catholic community of the Del Rio border region.
