Parish History
The community that became San Antonio de Padua began as outreach to the children of Smith's Dairy in the Mission Valley, where the Daughters of Charity from Hotel Dieu Hospital traveled every Sunday with two laywomen to teach catechism. A chapel was built near the dairy on North Loop Road in 1917 and rebuilt in 1944; that structure still stands and is now the parish hall. In 1968 the community was erected as a parish, and the present church was dedicated in 1998 to accommodate the growing bilingual congregation.
