Why belong here

Saints Peter and Paul offers Catholics in Hobart and across Kiowa County a weekly Sunday Mass and a regular confession schedule in the heart of southwestern Oklahoma — a rare and valued presence in a small rural community. As a mission, it shares pastoral care with neighboring parishes in Mangum and Hollis, meaning Mass and sacramental ministry are guaranteed through a priest-administrator who covers the cluster. Its roots stretch back to the earliest years of Oklahoma's Catholic life, and the parish maintains the historic Resurrection Cemetery nearby.

History of the Parish

Catholic life in Hobart predates Oklahoma statehood. A deed of August 23, 1907 transferred five acres of land in the Southeast Quarter of the Northeast Quarter of Section 2, Township 6 North, Range 18 West, from the Hobart Cemetery Association to the Bishop of the Catholic Church, to be known as the Resurrection Cemetery of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The fact that the parish already maintained a cemetery in territorial days speaks to a community established before 1907.

  • Parish in existence by 1907 in the Territory of Oklahoma
  • Maintains Resurrection Cemetery, deeded to the Bishop on August 23, 1907
  • Mid-1990s: served as a mission of Sacred Heart, Mangum under Father David F. Monahan (1995–1997)

Clergy and Pastoral Leadership
