St. Paul Catholic Church is a Eucharistic community in the Diocese of Colorado Springs serving the Broadmoor neighborhood of southwestern Colorado Springs at 9 El Pomar Road. Established as a parish on November 15, 1925, around the historic Pauline Chapel built by Spencer and Julie Penrose, it grew alongside the Penrose legacy and the Broadmoor area and today offers daily and Sunday Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, a K-8 Catholic school, youth ministry, music ministry, and parish life programs. Monsignor Robert E. Jaeger has served as pastor since July 2008 and concurrently serves as Vicar General for the diocese.

History & Heritage
St. Paul's story begins not in 1925, but in 1918, when Spencer Penrose wrote to Bishop J. H. Tihen of Denver offering to fund a Catholic chapel near the Broadmoor Hotel on land donated by the Broadmoor company. The result — a Mission-style chapel designed by Thomas MacLaren and dedicated on May 18, 1919 — became Pauline Chapel, named for Mrs. Julie Penrose's six-year-old granddaughter Pauline. On November 15, 1925, Bishop Tihen formally created St. Paul's Catholic Parish (the third in the Colorado Springs area) and named Father Louis Hagus its first pastor. By the 1950s, the congregation had outgrown the original chapel and was holding Sunday Mass in the new school auditorium — prompting Archbishop Urban J. Vehr's now-famous directive to build a new church. That new St. Paul Church opened on Christmas Eve 1959 and was dedicated February 3, 1960. The parish marked its 100th anniversary on November 15, 2025, with former mayor John Suthers compiling the centennial history.

Parish School — St. Paul Catholic School (Preschool–Grade 8)
St. Paul Catholic School opened September 12, 1955, as Pauline Memorial Catholic School, through the generosity of the Spencer and Julie Penrose family and in memory of their granddaughter Pauline. Originally serving kindergarten through fourth grade and growing by one grade per year, it became a full Preschool–Grade 8 school with a science lab, gymnasium, cafeteria, and library. The school was renamed from 'Pauline Memorial' to 'St. Paul' in 2012. It serves St. Paul Parish families as well as families from 15 parishes and ten school districts across the Colorado Springs area — including a large number of military families — and is fully accredited through AdvancED, with faculty catechetically certified under the Bishop's Charter of the Diocese of Colorado Springs. Under the Diocese's 'Illuminating Our Path' strategic plan, the school now operates under centralized diocesan governance with a Board of Directors chaired by Bishop James Golka and Superintendent Sheila Whalen.

Music Ministry
Music Ministry at St. Paul involves four weekend ensembles, weekly Wednesday rehearsals from 6:15–7:45 PM during the school year in the Choir Loft, and a separate Director of Music. The Saturday 5:00 PM ensemble is a primarily vocal ensemble with piano; the Sunday 8:00 AM ensemble is vocal with guitar; the Sunday 10:30 AM Chancel Choir is accompanied by organ and piano and sings from the choir loft; the Sunday 5:30 PM ensemble is a small vocal group of youth and adults with piano and guitar. The ministry also helps couples select music for weddings and families plan music for funerals.

Youth Ministry (Grades 7–12)
Youth Ministry at St. Paul serves grades 7 through 12 with a two-year Confirmation program (Year 1 in 7th grade, Year 2 in 8th grade) that combines small-group learning, 'Ablaze' nights of large-group presentation with adoration and confession, retreats, service opportunities, and a Knowledge Bowl. Confirmation candidates are required to attend Mass every Sunday, complete at least four service opportunities (with one done with a parent/sponsor and one outside parish-organized events), and may not miss more than three Sunday classes. OCIT (Order of Christian Initiation for Teens), an Upperclassmen Youth Group (Grades 11–12), and Sunday Youth Group meetings (3:30–5:00 PM) round out the program. Registration for the coming year opens April 21, 2026.

Sacraments & Devotions
St. Paul prepares parishioners for the sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Communion, Confirmation (through the parish Confirmation program for 7th–8th graders and OCIT for teens), Marriage, and Anointing of the Sick. Reconciliation (Confession) is offered Saturday afternoon, Thursday morning, and one Sunday each month. The parish has a strong Eucharistic Adoration tradition with weekly Thursday exposition and monthly first-weekend Saturday and Sunday hours. Music guidelines for weddings and funerals are available through the Music Ministry.

First pastor of St. Paul Parish; died July 1935. Famously asked Bishop Tihen for permission to hold a Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve 1925 and was denied.
